The extended range duduk is invented by Georgy Minasyan (Minasov) and is patented in Armenia in 2001 under Patent No. 1165. This instrument expands the range of the traditional duduk, allowing musicians to perform within two octaves. This improves flexibility and agility over all the fingers, as well as across the ranges previously unaccustomed to duduk musicians. In addition to the original duduk sound, this one adds five additional notes to the lower register extending its sound capabilities.

The Range

The extended range duduk adds three notes thanks to the upper lever (D, D#, and E). All three notes are played by pressing the lever and/or a combination of lever and lips.  Three multi-functional two-way levers, found at the bottom of the instrument, allows playing notes A, Ab, G, Gb, F and E. As a whole, the combination of levers and lips on this instrument allows the musician to perform between E3 and E5 over two octaves.
