Our soft reeds are have been carefully selected for beginners duduk musicians who are still learning or struggling to create their first duduk sounds.

These duduk reeds are optimal for practicing fingering agility and speed since they require less emphasis on your embouchure and breathing to allow more focus on your fingerwork.

Soft reeds are recommended if you are playing a dam (drone) duduk and pair very well with a bass duduk.

Important Information

Reed our extensive reed selection guide for more details.

  • Reeds are made from natural material and are extremely sensitive to temperature and humidity changes.
  • It is normal for reeds to behave inconsistently when you move to another location. For example, the reeds play well in your home but may behave differently when you go to perform at another location.
  • All reed features have been tested in Toronto, Ontario where the average annual humidity levels are around 81.0%.
  • The majority of medium and hard reeds tend to improve as you play them, although it is not always guaranteed (some will actually might play worse - so there is no foolproof formula for reeds).
  • These reeds might not work with non-professional instruments purchased from Amazon or Etsy.

We strive to provide an accurate description of our reeds, based on our professional judgment and experience. However, when arriving at your location the reeds may have different sound qualities due to the humidity and temperature differences. As an organic product reeds can be influenced by these factors. At this time, there is no known method to ensure reed quality consistency around the world to prevent different environments from affecting the reeds.

With this being considered, Dudukhouse guarantees that all reeds have been thoroughly tested by an experienced duduk musician in our Toronto location. All reeds are tested, packed, and sent with care, love, and respect for our customers and fellow musicians.

Reed Basics & Tips

Reeds are the heart of the duduk—and the trickiest part to master. Their sound can change with the weather, your mood, or even the city you're in. In this complete guide, we break down the different types of reeds, how to choose them based on your skill level, performance needs, and duduk key, plus tips for prolonging their life. Whether you're just starting out or performing on stage, this guide will help you get the best sound out of your instrument.

How to open duduk reeds

Step 1

Add water

Add a small amount of water into the back opening of the reed, then immediately pour it out.

Step2

Set aside

Set the reed aside for 15–20 minutes to allow the residual moisture to naturally open the reed.

Step 3

Check

Remove the cap and check if the reed’s aperture has opened. If it hasn’t, replace the cap and wait an additional 5–7 minutes.

Step 4

Play

Insert the reed into your duduk, adjust the regulator (parda) to tune the pitch, and you’re ready to play.
