About the author
Sar Kamlér, founder of Dudukhouse and a passionate advocate for the Armenian duduk, is a player and educator based in Toronto. Growing up in Yerevan, Armenia, he was immersed in the music of his homeland, though he came to the duduk later in life. This journey led him to study with renowned musician and duduk innovator Georgy Minasov, whose mentorship expanded not only Sar's technical skills but introduced him to the extended-range duduk - opening new possibilities across jazz, classical, and contemporary genres. Sar's debut solo album Butterfly (2024) marks his evolution from student to recording artist and composer. His nine original compositions showcase the duduk's versatility beyond traditional Armenian music, with the album's title reflecting his own transformation - from player to teacher, from student to someone helping preserve and share the instrument's traditions with the world. Since 2024, Sar has been leading Ethnosonic, a Toronto-based ethnic jazz fusion ensemble that honors diverse cultural heritages while creating fresh, contemporary sounds. As composer, vocalist, and duduk player, he continues exploring new ways to bridge world music traditions with modern genres.
